Maria and I have been friends for some years; I don't think she'd mind me sharing that she and her husband Dale met in junior high - in fact, they were fixed up by his mother! (Don't you wish your mother set you up with pretty girls when you were 13?!) In any case, unless it affects their ability to do their job, I'd rather we didn't speculate about the private lives of on-air talent.

Leave it to the Herald to publish a story about this.

It's interesting that she is not on the air today

Isn't it ironic that her job is to often report on the personal lives of celebrities but when it's mentioned on this board for a split second Max gets his panties all up in a bunch?

We're not Fox 25, and I don't recall the last time they reported anything having to do with the personal lives of their Boston TV bretheren - maybe Randi Goldklank or more likely Jeff Derderian? Her reporting role and mine bear almost no comparison.
We have certain standards, and since I'm willing to bet you don't actually know any more than a rather more long-winded form of going "Oooh! Oooh!", I'll invite you not to comment further. If you don't like our standards, no-one's begging you to stick around.
I hope that was pithy enough for you.

You know what, I apologize, I'm not done. I have a relavant point.
The reason Maria not wearing a ring was in the paper is because her job -- her stature as an anchorwoman -- has everything to do with sex appeal. She was referred to in the story as "anchor babe." Last year there she did a photo shoot with Boston magazine where it looked like she was posing for Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition without the swimsuit. Don't get me wrong, I think she is extremely talented and used to be a great reporter. But her job has everything to do with physical appearance and sex appeal. If you ask any straight man in the Boston area who Maria Stephanos is they will say "Isn't that the hot chick on Fox?" On-air TV news reporters' jobs have EVERYTHING to do with their looks and style, as much if not more so than actual reporting. How often do you see a bald anchorman on television? The only one I know of is that guy on NESN .... and most likely he only got the job because he is a minority. How often do you see an older woman on TV? How often do really good anchors get bumped off the chair because they're appearance, style, etc. doesn't draw in enough viewers? Looks are a huge deal in TV news... sex appeal is a huge deal... that's all.

The Maria I know (and you likely don't) would not be so disrespectful of her own marriage as to deliberately neglect to put on her wedding ring in order to up her "grrrrrr factor", and the last time I checked, she didn't write the article which referred to her as an "anchor babe". You think Randy Price (who, last time I checked, was not exactly folicallly blessed) goes around referring to himself as a "sartorial superstud"?
I think in the midst of a possibly once-reasonable feminist-esque argument, you've forgotten one key fact:
The... story... was... wrong!!!

Amen. I think the fundamental problem here is schadenfreude - certain people actually somehow wanting it to be true. It isn't.

I haven't seen, nor do I have an issue with any anchor named Schadenfreude. But I have seen Ms. Stephanos. I'll reiterate my opinion (which have nothing to do with anyone's personal lives or appearance). If it's a junior high-school valley-girl accent I want, I'll find a junior high school in California. Nothing personal here, but my ears hear what they hear. I will, however, give Ms. Stephanos faint praise: Her diction is better than Mayor Menino's.
