I very rarely post on this board although I read it often. However, this particular thread really caught my attention because BTVNadmin seems incredibly defensive where Ms. Stephanos is concerned. His/Her responses seem biting and attacking. I watch Fox25 in the a.m. and the evening news. I enjoy the news broadcasts but can honestly say I think Ms. Stephanos giggles entirely too much for someone who is supposed to be a "professional". I think it would behoove BTVNadmin to try to be more objective and not quite so protective of Ms. Stephanos. I'm sure she can fend off the critics on her own!

She's an old friend of mine and people wouldn't leave it alone even after the "story" (such as it was) had been put to bed. Simple as that. I'd have done the same for anyone else, but I don't mind admitting that I had a slightly more personal stake in this one.

My sincere apologies; I genuinely didn't mean to make that sound condescending.

Max, Keep doing what you are doing! I appreciate your comments and your loyalty to your friends. I also did not know the meaning of that word and am not going to attempt to type it now!!!!

My point is that a big part of Maria's success has to do with her appearance and sex appeal, even if she is a good anchor regarless. I don't think that's a controversial thing to say here; and that is why I think her that speculated divorce, whether it's true or not, might be a relevant discussion topic.
Also, Max, I am correct when I say that you rarely see bald men or older women anchoring the news. The ones in Boston you see, i.e. the Randy Prices and the Susan Wornicks, are still on TV because they are exceptions to the rule... they came on the scene when TV news wasn't all about style over substance and have developed a following. If you were a balding man in, say, your 20s, then you could probably never get a job in television news.
Another thing Max, can you absolutely confirm that the divorce story is false? You have mentioned in the past that you have a friendship with Maria, so why can't you get her on the record to say it's not true? Since the Herald story broke she has not been on the air at all!!!

A big part of her success may be her sex appeal, but will her looks change if she gets divorced? I think not.

Fluff is right, but to follow up on the last point... I would, but 25's press office has been notoriously prickly with us (unlike everyone else) for years, and the last time Maria gave me an "unauthorized" quote, they got very angry with her. Theoretically, I could ask her, but since it would be an off-the-record exchange, I wouldn't be at liberty to talk about it.
Maggie in the PR office shut it down. Did you ever consider that Maria might be on a vacation that is longer than most because of her senior status? And whether or not it is true (and I'm 98% sure that it isn't),did you consider the notion that you may be becoming a little too dogged in your pursuit of this particular nugget of supposed familial strife?
I'm a friend of hers and even I don't consider it my business to know, so beyond an official confirmation or denial (which we already had eons ago - a denial), what makes it any of yours? And spare me the "she's a public figure" BS - Maggie already did what she had to do on that front and you STILL won't let it drop. It's more than a little unsettling, actually.

I did consider all the things you mentioned. I suppose the bottom line is we won't know if it's true or not for quite some time since you don't have the gumption to ask. And yes, she is a public figure. And yes, if A-Rod or Britney Spears or any other celebrity was getting divorced, MARIA would be the one on TV telling us about it. That is why I think your argument is hypocritical but I suppose we are all entitled to our opinions.

Management at 25 (unlike everyone else) don't consider me legit enough (after seven years) to give an on-the-record quote, and as Maria's friend, I refuse on principle to use anything from private conversations. You're STILL not getting it - she answered the question already. She did what she had to do as a public figure by denying it; she burst the bubble of your argument a long tome ago.
It's not a question of gumption; it's a question of decency and also redundancy.
I'm deleting this thread later today.

C'mon now, lets get real. Maria is a decent Anchor. But she is a public figure whose sex appeal is BLATANTLY MARKETED by Fox. Look at the most recent promotional pix. I'll leave it at that. Hey, thats just fine with me. Its a strategy and its been effective. But are you telling me that Fox can play this game, but viewers can NOT? ? Questioning her Marital Status is off limits? Huh? No one is alleging ANY impropriety. They're simply wondering is she's married?? Tell me--which option makes her a terrible person: married or single??

Well, the continuation of this topic suggests the original poster thinks she was lying, so that's what I'm defending. Her marital status WAS questioned - and answered. 'Nuff said.
