has anyone else noticed that on the weekend newscasts the bug does not display the time, only the temperature? (at least on the 11:00, not sure about the 6:00). I just find it weird that they change their bug for their weekend newscasts

ha! shows how much I watch WBZ, sorry about that! Does anyone know why they choose to do this? Or do people think its just the producers prerogative to not have the time?

It's a way to get the viewer to keep watching. If the person watching sees that is it 11:10, they may be more inclined to go to sleep, but if no time is shown, they are more likely to stay up and watch. More viewers watching from 11:15-11:30 means a higher 11p show rating.

Although, don't they know that most people watch the 11:00 in bed, and they have an alarm clock right next to them? Or the fact that many people have a cable box right near their tv that displays the time?

This is true. Alarm clocks, cable boxes, watches, cellphones, but hey, any extra minute helps, and if half the audience turns off their TVs at 11:15, they'd probably still win the entire 11pm show. I don't know the particulars.
I actually don't like the time/temp bugs at all.

I love the time and temp bug. Screen looks naked without one.

I've never noticed. I'm usually too busy with more enjoyable portions of the screen; Lisa, Paula, etc. I've survived all these decades without some goofy little graphic at the bottom of screen. I sure don't need it now. And I don't need each network's logo on-screen continuously to remind which one I'm watching.
