Actually, Channel 7 is number 1 at 5am, with 25 in 4th. And at 6am 7 is in 1st, with 25 in 3rd. It is usually 5 in first at these times, this is just the last rating periods. The only reason 25s ratings go up at 8 is because they are the only station with local news. This is why I have always thought WBZ could get higher ratings in the morning if they bumped the awful Early Show to TV38 and expanded their local news. 25 is #1 in total viewers from 5 to 9 across all demos. 25 is actually the only station with local news after 7am, not 8am. It doesn't matter who's #1 at 5am or 6am. More viewers tune in during second half of the morning block and the spots cost more later in the morning and the frequency of spots is higher too. 25 is winning that game across the board. My apologies. However, they really don't have "work to do," because they cannot compete with 25 past the 7am hour, they have no local show airing then. I stand by my point that the only reason 25 may be number one is the fact that they are the only ones on when more people are awake. I'm sure if channel 5 moved into the 7-9am hours they would kill 25 in the ratings.

So did anyone watch the Eye this morning? Thoughts?

So did anyone watch the Eye this morning? Thoughts? I didn't notice any real difference; and certainly not the three live reporters in the field that were promised. I don't know what they would add anyway. How many times do we need to hear about something that will happen five hours from now in the darkened building?

I don't usually watch the Eyeopener so I can't really make a comparison, but as rbreton said: There were 3 reporters- Todd Kas. (I don't remember how to spell the last name) and Kimberly Bookman were in the field - Shiba was in studio. What I can comment on though is Randy, he did a great job and they seemed to welcome him with open arms, it was however weird to watch him so early in the morning, to me he just doesn't fit for a morning newscasts. This might just be me, but in the morning I like to see younger faces, like all the other morning anchors in town have. Not taking anything away from him at all, I think he is great, but I think he would fit better on a later newscast, like he was used at 7.

Good Day Max,
I did not see Randy's first show yesterday but I did watch today and it was if he has been there forever! I felt the karma was much better. I was not a fan of David Brown as I felt he should have been left doing weather. Randy knows his stuff and is a professional and I can't say enough good things about his performance.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I know David a tiny bit, and I like him a great deal as both a person and a broadcaster. However, putting a weather guy onto the news desk is going to disorientate everyone from the casual viewer to us news geeks, and does absolutely no favors for the perception of your news credibility, irrespective of who you put in the anchor chair.

personally, i never minded david brown, but i find randy to be a huge improvement. i would actually argue he is more suited for the morning; he's somewhat relaxed. both he and bianca did seem awkward at the desk together. maybe im just not used to seeing them both on that particular timeslot. either way, im sure the chemistry will get better with time.
overall, a great move for both cvb and price, and i look forward to seeing him on the eyeopener for a long time.

Sorry off topic but I didn't want to start another thread for a simple question.
What in the world is Bianca doing anchoring (solo at that) the 11 o'clock news tonight?

Ed was at a hospital reporting/anchoring from there following the ABC special..and Bianca was anchoring in-studio.

its great to see Randy filling in for Ed during the evening shows, it just stinks that he has to do the eyeopener as well. But I think he fits the evening team better, during the morning he looks like a father figure to JC and Bianca. I just think that he fits better on the nightside shows and fits better with what viewers of channel 5 are looking for at that time. But he was a great addition to 'CVB no matter where he is used.

I'll have say, I was a fan of Randy when he was at WBZ. When he moved to WHDH, I could not stand watching him (looking back on things, it wasn't him, it was the station and the way they wanted him to present the so-called news). Now at WCVB, I think he's fit in quite well to the product they present.
It appears that he is enjoying it, hope that's the case.
Max, maybe you can get us one of your exclusives "Randy... Five months later...Only on BTVN"?
