According to the Globe, once the copter sharing begins he will be doing traffic reports from the studio.

Maybe in those 6 years he should have tried to get his flying license.

why cant WBZ use their chopper in the am? WBZ Radio chopper is owned by Metro, not WBZ. Metro uses it to feed traffic reports to WBZ Radio and other radio stations. I don't understand why Fox doesn't go with Metro or SmartRoutes traffic services like 4,5 and 7. It's more cost-effective anyway. Why do they need their own traffic person?

No - WBZ radio and WBZ news choppers are two separate entities.
The radio chopper belongs to Metro... the news chopper is LEASED.
That lease is about to come up. Since the Fox chopper's lease is longer, that is the helicopter they are going to use for the news sharing agreement.
Since the chopper must be painted in neutral colors and only used for things that both stations can share (are part of their new agreement), that means Doug needs to stay on the ground.

Why are WFXT and WBZ doing this? To save money.

Maybe in those 6 years he should have tried to get his flying license. Or maybe in those six years he could have lost some weight. Those 'maternity clothes' he wears are plain silly. Good try at hiding it...LOL

Apprently the unions are filing grievances about this mash-up for resources. Yet more proof that unions suck.

I really miss Doug Meehan up in the air. It's not Doug that I miss so much as it is those great shots that Sky Fox provided: over traffic, aerial views, Firehouse Fridays.
