Wow. Appalled? Over saying "HDTV" instead of "Digital?" C'mon! What you should be appalled about is the move away from local programming to homogenous national syndication as evidenced by the recent move to "lay off" Steve Leveille from the overnight broadcast. CBS has done it. They've destroyed one of America's foremost radio stations. Dan Rey is no David Brudnoy. He is no Paul Sullivan. He is rude, argumentative and one-sided. The new overnight show is as bland and boring as they get. It's a shame, there's no good radio to listen to overnight at all anymore. Well, there's been a general 'dumbing-down' of people in the media over the years. You ratchet the pay down, and that's what you get. News reports of aviation incidents are hysterical to listen to, as anchors and reporters botch everything up: type of plane, number of people, airline. Happens all the time. The media is losing their audience because they just can't be counted on to be accurate with the news. And that was the case with the 'HDTV' comment. The guy who stated it over the air, or the hack who wrote the copy...neither of them could be bothered with 'getting it right.' It's a sad indictment on the state of media in general: TV news, radio news/talk, and the newspapers. Dan Rea, on the talk side, comes across as an aloof know-it-all...someone who would say, ' We only have 30 seconds left...' before asking a rambling, 29-second question of a guest. But I'm completely with you on WBZ being destroyed. An iconic three-letter call sign and 50,000 watts...wasted. WBZ behaves like a 5,000-watt station out of a third-world country now. Sad.

I agree with Admiral. Very sad situation at WBZ. Can we all agree that Dan Rea is positively unlistenable. Arrogant, rude, absurdely argumentative. AND he lets total idiots ramble on forever. the guy has to be the worst I've ever heard on radio. The guy is a 2-bit lawyer and is totally clueless. And HE is WBZ's attempt to be local?
BRING BACK STEVE LEVEILLE!!!

I agree 100% on Dan Rea. He is AWFUL. He lets terrible callers ramble on, he cuts off good callers in mid-sentence, he's ruled by the clock and makes you nervous listening to him.
He is REALLY bad. he is argumentative in a really childish way. I have no idea why he got that job. He must have connections in management as he worked in the same building for 30 years.
it is GREAT though to hear Steve Leveille back. People love Steve. he was MADE for that day part.

I like to listen to a little local talk radio on the drive home and because Michelle McPhee is totally unlistenable I tune into Rea.
He does come off as a know it all and someone who thinks he is a bit better than everyone else. I don't need to be reminded every night that he spent 30 years as a TV reporter and he is a lawyer.
I am amazed and how amazed he gets when he recives a call from outside new England. He feels it necessary to question each out of state caller about why, how often and how long they have been listening to BZ. He acts like getting a call from North Carolina or Maryland is some crazy new thing.
But, he is exactly what BZ wants. He is not going to get very controversial, he will be a good solidier and he knows he is never going to makke big bucks working at BZ.
