Quite an interesting predicament down in Hartford. WTNH, Channel 8, did not renew the contract of meteorologist Geoff Fox after twenty-six years with the station. General Manager Mark Higgins, who arrived at WTNH only a short time ago, did not renew the contract of both Fox and weekend meteorologist Matt Scott. As a result, thousands of viewers have taken to Facebook, Twitter, and other forms of social media to protest the decision. As of the time of this writing, Keep Geoff Fox on Channel 8 has nearly 10,000 fans and hundreds of messages of support from viewers. Certainly, this magnitude of backlash was not forseen, but the basic idea has been seen before. Here in Boston, legions of viewers expressed lament over the non-renewal of several high-profile figures from different outlets. However, this show of support has certainly rocked the Hartford and New Haven TV market shows just how widespread the effect of social media has become. Is "Dr. Mel" still around or has he retired? I always wished he was on in Boston.
