My first impression was positive. Very slick, clean looking graphics. New set is sharp, though there definitely looked to be some co-mingling of the old set over near the new anchor desk.
I really liked some of the cool flyover shots they did showing the entire studio. Its very unusual to see any sort of wide studio shot on NECN so that was a nice change.
New hosts seem like pros, but need to work on their chemistry together, but that should come in time. I will say that some of the banter early on in the show came across a bit like the old "Morning Latte'" sketch on SNL. But I would attribute that more to new cohosts, new format..first day kinks.
Overall, I'd say a good start.
My biggest quesiton, since I am at work and unable to watch the TV...will the new graphics/set carry over to the rest of the day's programming?
Truthfully, after such a fresh looking morning show, it would be a letdown to go back to the clunky blue graphics and newsroom set at 9 a.m.

Unfortunately, on my cable system (Charter Communications), NECN's channel assignment isn't in the same block as the other cable news channels -- CNN, HLN, MSNBC, CNBC, Fox -- (ok, "alleged" news for the last one). It's not even closeby.

Watched it yesterday for a short time and don't care for it. I used to switch to NECN at 7 when the other channels went to the National fluff shows. Now they are all the same. Don't like the sofa set or the anchors. Nothing New England Cable News about it - just lost a viewer in the a.m.

Many negative comments on Facebook about the new show.

There definitely seems to be a lot of viscerol reactions on Facebook. I see a lot of repeated themes, most of them not dealing directly with content. Lot of people seem to be harping on the furniture on the set. Truthfully, I can't understand how an anchor talking about the same story from behind a desk or on a couch makes a difference to the overall message of what's being communicated.
I leave the house at 7:30 a.m. so I've only gotten the first half hour each morning...and both mornings, the first 30 minutes seem to be pretty heavy on content - two weather reports, two traffic reports, a live reporter in the field, and a top story segment. Now maybe, the content drops off after the first 30 minutes and if so, then NECN should probably make adjustments.
The only thing that is confusing me about this new show is the remaining dayparts. Yesterday, they did the morning show from the new studio and broadcast out of the tiny newsroom for the rest of the day, save for the 9 p.m. news, which was done out of the new studio, only this time with a blue backdrop. Does NECN have some plan to incorporate the rest of their broadcasts into the new studio?
For that matter, will the rest of the graphics be altered to match the new weather graphics and the new NECN logo with the black letters and red stripe?
It was painful to watch Jim Braude interview Carol Simpson last night. Basically, they were both sitting less than a foot apart from one another, but each person had to look into the camera as if they were in a remote satellite location. A few times, Carol caught herself looking at Jim when he was asking her a quesiton. It was actually quite comical. Yet, they have a perfect interview set literally 10 feet away.
Does anybody have any insight as to whether or not NECN is going to start better meshing their on-air look together?

Interestingly, former NECN morning personality Steve Safran will be a panellist on WGBH's "Beat the Press" this week - he's not a happy man!

But apparently he'll be maintaining a respectful silence.

Unless a tornado is headed for my house, I'm still sound asleep between 4 and 7AM so the expanded news won't have any effect on me.

New morning show? If I recall correctly NECN was built around hard hitting news 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Reminds me of the days after WHDH was changed over to this "Fluff journalistic standard.
