Just read in Jessica Heslam's MediaBiz Column from the Boston Herald on the media coverage on the Boston Red Sox Spring training coverage:
WBZ will be sending, as usual, Dan Roche
WCVB will be sending Mike Lynch to the Sunshine State
What is a sign of the times to me will be the lack of presence by Fox 25 and WHDH in Fort Myers. Ms. Heslam reports that the 7 Bullfinch Place folks will be using resources of WSVN. While WFXT will have reports during their newscasts, they will not send anyone down to Florida for coverage.
Seems as the days of full sports departments may be a thing of the past.

Who does 25 even have to send? Isn't Ryan still a one man band over there?

Seems as the days of full sports departments may be a thing of the past. Her article is missing a few critical points. a) Sox-mania is starting to subside. Tickets for spring training games are easily available at face value. Many regular season home games are far from being sold out. The home night opener vs. Yankees is not even sold out. Whether it's the lousy economy or the fact this year's team is going to be pretty lackluster is probably a combinatin of two. b) Spring training coverage adds nothing to the ratings. It's been proven time and time again.
