Just wondering if Mark and Maria changed their shifts because they anchored a "Sunday-Thursday" schedule and Frank and Sara did the "Friday and Saturday" shift. On Friday Mark and Maria anchored and Sunday night Frank and Sara are anchoring.
Any reason for this change??

I'm not sure.
Originally it was set up that way because, eons ago, Fox had a huge Sunday night hit with "The X Files" and wanted to retain the audience, so they used their flagship team. They're so well-established now, though, that they may not need to do it that way anymore.

I wonder if the NFL's return has anything to do w/ it? Perhaps they find it ain't worth sending out the starters on a Sunday night if there's less audience to grab?

After reading the initial post and actually catching the 10pm Newscast last night, it didn't even come to mind that Frank and Sara were on a Sunday.
I have no preference when watching Fox as the anchor teams so far are all great at anchoring.

Maybe it's to take advantage of Friday's (and Mon-Thu as well) 6PM lead-in of "Dr. Oz.?"

That could be the reason Bostonmeadiaguy. I think Frank and Sara always do great when they anchor!

The reason is two-fold.
One - Fox Sunday is hardly a hit night anymore. Animation Domination does not deliver a news audience.
Two - they want their A-team on the 6 pm show, at least at the start. Said show doesn't exist on Sundays because of the NFL.

The Sunday-Thursday format for main anchors was in place since summer 1997 when Tory Ryden and Dave Barker were 10pm anchors. Glen Pearson and Karen Adams anchored Fridays and Saturdays.
