Something like Ansin is also from Leno's hometown and enjoys his peformances. Went on with some more dribble about - hoping it's a success.
Maybe we should all have do a group hug and sing kumbanya

If you'll forgive me a moment of schadenfreude-laden profanity - the hills are alive with the sound of bullshit!

Listen.... .... that pitiful whimpering sound you hear coming from 7 Bulfinch Place ? .... It's Darth Ansin licking his wounds... and tucking tail from the whupping NBC execs gave him "behind the scenes". Count on this supremely stupid act by the Dark Lord of Bulfinch Place to come back to haunt him later. NBC won't forget... nor forgive this blatant and embarrassing snub... when it comes time to renew the affiliation contract.

I agree. I don't know how the whole network-affiliate relationship works but I'm guessing NBC will be seriously thinking of alternatives when it comes to renew 7's contract with NBC.

I agree with newsie007 that NBC won't forget. I don't see 7's contract being renewed. I wouldn't be surprised if NBC buys a major Boston station or announces a new affilate within the next year or so.
Does anyone know when 7's contract is up with NBC?

Does anyone know when 7's contract is up with NBC? As far as I know, at least a few years from now. I might be wrong though. I remember reading somewhere the contract wasn't up for a while.

I seem to remember it being 2012. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Even if the renewal is a few years from now... 2012 or whenever.
If Ansin still owns WHDH at that time... NBC will not have forgotten the snub ... and the international embarrassment... and bad press he caused the network... and Leno.
Despite the sunny Los Angeles weather.... when it comes to business, Hollywood is a cold town... with a long memory.
Darth... you have no idea how to play with the big boys in LA. Stupid move dude.

NBC won't forget... nor forgive this blatant and embarrassing snub... when it comes time to renew the affiliation contract. That's an excellent point: NBC won't forget. Not only did WHDH lose the battle, they'll probably lose the war. NBC got their way and they're still going to be pissed at WHDH. Talk about a double-sided loss for WHDH. The problems plaguing WHDH are, IMO, home-grown ones. They aren't the byproduct of the show being at 11pm versus 10pm. That kind of insular thinking invades all local TV news operations: They all think the fix is 'B' when it really is 'A.' How do we know this? Nothing ever gets fixed! There's nothing intrinsically wrong with 11pm; ask the other stations. The eventual 'last laugh' could be WHDH's if Leno doesn't deliver for NBC. That would be a huge 'told-you-so' for WHDH. although that will be several years off. They won't jettison Leno as cavalierly as they do some of my favorite TV shows.

ansin tried to grandstand and nbc put him in his place and then some. its a victory for the networks; i doubt we'll see another challenge from an affiliate to a net for quite a while now.
i agree that nbc will seriously consider not renewing whdh's contract. they win in two ways: (1) obviously they get their show on in the short term, and get to flex their muscle in the process. (2) they are given the opportunity to keep a boston station that may not be perfect, but still has a better place on the dial. until the contract is up, they'll keep 7, but this also gives them time to prepare a new station like Telemundo or whatever in advance. if they had to make the switch on the fly, it would be disastrous. now they have time.
the folks at rock plaza win big.

What muscle are you talking about? It's the 4th place network which is programming like the 5th place network. Their idea of competiting is to cut out five hours of original programming and fill it with a washed-up unfunny latenite talkshow show host who can't even touch Letterman in Boston. That's embarassing for a guy from Andover. NBC will bury CH.7's news. at 11. Dumb move by Ansin to accept more money from NBC to keep running their lousy programming while 11pm news audience slowly disappears.

NBC's numbers may be soft, but they're not down and out. And at the same time, it's not at all know how a new programming environment for all the networks in terms of original programming costs will also affect the success or otherwise of the new Leno show, NBC and it's affiliates. But all of this is talking programming theory when in fact, this issue between Ansin and NBC is much more basic. NBC has a contract with Ansin that rewards him financially for carrying NBC. And over a period of years, Ansin has done pretty well with his partner NBC.
What just happened was a guy who thinks he can now change the rules of a game he has signed on to and one in which he is being rewarded to play by the contractual language. Putting aside all of the assessments of either side, it's just that simple. And then beyond that, Jay Leno did afterall grow up in the town where Mr. Ansin went to school, Mr Ansin does enjoy Mr. Leno's humor , oh and yes, Mr. Ansin does wish Leno much success. You've got to admit this is pretty laughably arrogant stuff, even from a billionaire.

Congratulations, Ed. By backing down, you just assured that 7 News at 11 PM will remain in last place. FOR SURE.
Except with an EVEN WORSE lead-in than you've enjoyed lately.
Oh, did I mention, not just a lower total audience, but older demos, too?
And did I mention...its not just Monday nights--or Wednesday nights.....
Its EVERY SINGLE NIGHT MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...for the foreseeable future.
Now you remember why you fought that fight in the first place.
Do you REALLY want to let GE run you into the ground, so THEY can meet their operating budgets???
