Kim Khazei has been officially named as Randy Price's replacement alongside Frances Rivera on both 7 and 56.
The details are is this article, which discusses the increasing prominence of women in the market: www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/03/18/the_rise_of_the_anchorwomen/?page=2
That's an interesting enough topic in its own right, and one very much worthy of discussion.
However, there's one quote here that, to me, sticks out like a sore thumb: "When Price, the longtime anchor, left WHDH in February, Ansin recruited Khazei to fill in temporarily. 'I think they tend to be more passionate about the work,' he said of the new team."
Am I the only person who finds this horrifically unprofessional and offensive towards Randy?! Seriously, the man was and is arguably the most popular personality in the market and kept your station at #1 for the better part of a decade until your editorial direction went into the crapper (something which he vociferously fought against and led to him being kicked to the curb) and this is how you repay him?!
If it was a comment on the male staff as a whole, and not specifically Randy, that doesn't make it any better; I give you Messrs. Hall, Barnett, Hausle, Cooper and Hiller as prime examples of gentlemen whose talent is clearly underappreciated and might be better utilized elsewhere if that's how their boss really feels.
Though not at all well, I do know Kim and Frances (albeit only in little more than passing) and find them to be very pleasant people. However, my rather more extensive acquaintance with Randy notwithstanding, it does seem highly insulting of Mr. Ansin to even hint at the idea that he was anything less than passionate about his work up until the station's lack of standards became problematic for him.
Rant over. Thanks.
