i agree with seeveebee. price was (with the possible exception of jack williams) the only anchor in the market that could make any difference in a station's success. i hope that both he and channels 4 and 5 know that and that we will see him resurface soon.
7, as usual loses big time in their quest to appeal to the younger audience.
the winner in this? price himself. if we can confirm that he was the one that took a stand against 7's "different direction" (read: shamelessly appealing to the youth and producing a sub par product in the process) than he is a hero in broadcast journalism.
good luck, mr. price

Ansin is an idiot. All he cares about is boobs and money. He has little respect around the station either, for good reason.

This truly is a sad day for Boston TV. Randy is such a great guy, on and off screen. He works with so many great charities and causes, and having met him a few times, including a personal tour of the station, I can say that he is a really, really nice person.
I'm guessing it was money at the end of the day, not age. Does anyone have a guess as to what Randy's salary may have been? I have no idea what these news people make and have always wondered.

Here are my emotions toward Ch. 7: Here are my emotions toward Ch. 4: ;D (now, of course). Simply put- I am shocked that Ansin went in this direction. Everyone who works at channel 7 should be ASHAMED in their boss. (Yes, I bolded, italicised, and underlined that). I think that it really is a sin. Randy's a hard working, trustworthy, newsman. Not the next Access Hollywood host, which many of their current news anchors (aside from a select few) act like. Randy, If you're reading this-- my very best wishes to you. Hopefully you'll end up at Fox. That would be a great pairing; you and Maria. If not, hopefully one of the other Boston/NH/ME stations could scoop you up. Wouldn't that be something?! If someone like WMTW went after Randy! Their ratings would probably go thru the roof.

7 has now taken down the picture on the homepage of Randy and Frances and replaced it with the Pete Bouchard one. I am astonished at what is going on, I cannot believe the Ansin could be so stupid to let Randy go. But I am proud of Randy if it is true that he stood up for himself and the viewers saying that he wanted to bring class back into the newscasts and not be so tabloid-esq(spelling?) I wish him the best, and hope that he shows up soon somewhere else in Boston, so he can really show 7 what they are missing out on. 7 News will not be the same without him, I looked forward to seeing him give me the days news everyday, now I will probably watch more of 4.

Hi everyone, Just let you know that Randy Price has agreed to a phone interview with me at about 4PM EST tomorrow that I will subsequently post on YouTube. In a Boston media exclusive and his first broadcast interview, he has also agreed to take users' questions - that's where you come in! There are three ways to get involved: 1. E-mail your question to admin@btvn.net and include your name or a pseudonym 2. Leave your question right here in this thread. 3. Sign in (if you haven't already) and drop me a private message Try if you can to make your questions things I'm not bound to ask - that way, there's more chance you'll be included! Thanks!

Question for Randy:
In a 2003 interview with BTVN you respond to the criticism that WHDH covers too much national and human-interest stories by stating that "We cover the news we think is of interest to "local" people, not just "local" news. ... If we reach the point of making more bad decisions(and we make some) than good decisions, viewers will be letting us know..." This weekend you told the Herald you were unhappy with the way things are going.
Did the overall news philosophy change at Channel 7. What happened? Was it the resurgent WBZ? Lackluster NBC primetime? A combination of both?

So I guess that 'Compelling' is dead, for now at least. I couldn't see them reshooting all those ads when they have 10pm and Facebook spots to fill in. And what will happen to the billboard on I-93?
As for talent, here's my predictions: Morning/Noon remains the same 4/4:30/5:30 keeps Khazei, adds either Rudat or a recently laid-off Miami anchor/reporter (WTVJ canned their freelancers; WPLG cut a reporter) 5/6/11 keeps Rivera, adds Lorch 10 keeps Khazei/Rivera Weekend AM remains the same Weekend 6/10/11 keeps Delcamp, adds a recently laid-off Miami anchor/reporter
If 7 tanks in the March sweeps, Ansin will make a change. If not, the tabloid stuff will remain. It's as simple as that.

Aside from Jack Williams--who I really consider a 'retread' rather than a veteran in the true sense of the word--Randy Price was the last of the real veterans. I won't put Ed Harding in that category because I don't think he deserves to be. Our news today is delivered by people who are as close to 'nameless' and 'faceless' as can be. Virtually any of them could disappear tomorrow and you'd never know or care.
Randy is probably better off going in some totally new direction because the local market probably can't support his salary now anyway.
I agree with everyone who says that Randy is a class act and that he'll be the winner when all is said and done.

Ansin sees ratings falling and profit margins falling even faster.
Solution: Get rid of any big money-makers left in the shop. By jettisoning Price, 7 saves some money and will pay his replacement way less.
Next question: how long before HDH has their kids going one-man-band to save cash?

Well... well... well...
Darth Ansin strikes again - and the dark side of his force... has made the Boston news landscape even more incredibly desolate and inane than ever imagined.
I've got nothing else to add - that I haven't posted in numerous observations before.... about the evil corporate Lord that reigns over WHDH... seeking the ever coveted - yet, ultimately meaningless - youth audience.
Now that Randy Price is gone... WHDH - in my opinion - is now TOTALLY irrelevant in terms of quality or substance.
It is truly - a place without a purpose... ... a Flying Dutchman without a rudder... ultimately doomed to crash and shatter on the rocks of Ansin's myopic ignorance.
Without Randy Price... WHDH is no longer worth the time it takes... to switch channels past it on the remote... to something more relevant.
Peace.

Its all about the money.. The news is the news, and if the costs of the smoke and mirrors and groomed personalities get too costly, bye bye. The elitism that surrounds journalism has just met the balance sheet!!!!!!!!!
