TMZ is again reporting that NBC is rumored to be setting a deal up with Leno for the Tonight Show time slot and O'Brien to be out as of 1/22 (be his last show). Naturally, NBC is denying all reports.
My thoughts:
Coco goes to another network to go head to head with Leno.
For some reason NBC as a thing for Leno and once again this will bite them in the rear having to cough up 80 million for Coco. NBC has failed to capitalize in their programming for a few years dating back to "Must See TV" on Thursdays.
Southland, 3rd Watch are two examples of excellent programming that is being canceled too early. TNT did pick up Southland and is airing the show along with episodes that never aired on the Peacock Network.
NBC really needs to rethink what they that works and build on it.

The words "Studio 60" also suggest themselves!

For some reason NBC as a thing for Leno.. Could the reason be the Leno franchise has made tons of money for NBC, and that he held The Tonight Show in the #1 spot against Letterman? Hmmmm...could be! ;-) and once again this will bite them in the rear having to cough up 80 million for Coco. I am still not convinced that they have to pay out a contract for non-performance. Nobody (I mean nobody!) has a contract that pays them if they refuse to work. NBCU chief Jeff Zucker stuck to an extreme position that threatened to hold Conan to his contract and keep him off the air for 3 1/2 years and not pay him a penny of that $60M penalty fee if O'Brien doesn't host The Tonight Show as the network promised.NBC really needs to rethink what they have that works and build on it. Isn't that what they tried to do with leno? The 11:30 Leno was something that worked well for NBC and they tried to expand that franchise.
