Ansin took all sorts of heat for threatening to ditch Leno--knowing it would be a Lead In Disaster for affiliates even though its a huge money saver for the bean counters at GE.
Well, the numbers are In and.....yes, Ansin was spot on.
The Leno show is saving GE big bucks, but its turning out to be the FIVE NIGHT A WEEK disaster for NBC affiliates.
Ansin should have stuck to his guns,. He was right. WHDH is screwed every weeknight show at 11 PM

Well to be fair, I don't think 7 was doing too hot at 11 to begin with if I remember correctly. Are their numbers down from last time?

Not in my household... or my Mom's. lol It's appointment TV for me! Miss Jay on at 11 but glad he's back on at Ten.
What are the numbers exactly?
And if people wanted 7 News at 10... WLVI would have better numbers. They already HAVE a newscast at 10! lol

Ansin was right? About what? First he said that Jay Leno wasn't going to be good enough to preceed his news at 11. Then, he said Jay's a great guy, local and that he wishes him the best. The only thing bigger than Jay Leno's jokes are the mood swings of a guy who will say anything expecting that his employees and the public will believe any of that non-sense.

Newser, the 2 positions are hardly in conflict. I love Leno, too, but it was 100% certain that a low budget entry at 10 PM Mon-FRi was destined to ratings mediocrity at best.
Hey, personally I love Leno and despise Ansin...but I would have done EXACTLY what Ansin threatened to do--tell NBC they were not going to screw MY local franchise.
Political Correctness be damned Ansin was the only one initially with the guts to stand up to GE..but eventually he caved to.
Too bad--his station will pay dearly for the NBC mistake.

i still believe that Ansin got something out of the deal from "caving" and putting Leno on at 10. He is a business man, his job is to make money and better his company, he would not have given in without anything in return. I think that Jay is great, but I do think that it is weird to see him at 10 every night and that many people will/do not watch until the end of his show, so they do not tune back in for the 11:00 news

The Leno show is saving GE big bucks, but its turning out to be the FIVE NIGHT A WEEK disaster for NBC affiliates. Wow....all this after a couple of weeks? I recall that when Leno took over from Johnny that Letterman had the lead...and it took some tweaking and settling in before Leno took the lead from letterman...and then kept it. Whatever Ansin was saying publicly, was just a show and posturing. He was in high-stakes negotiation with NBC...and would've said the moon is made of cheese if it would have helped him financially. Everyone who speaks publicly has an agenda....usually below the surface.

Ansin spoke, and NBC reminded him of who has helped float his financial boat for years. He got nothing but a good smack down. As for Leno, it is much less likely these days for any of these networks to produce expensive big draw programming. Leno is as good a shot as most possibilities. If the 11 p.m. news can't draw it's on audience, then they need to think about what they're doing there. Actually, if you look at the numbers so far, Jay has been a pretty decent lead-in.

I see it like this: Leno as a lead-in has no impact as I would not ever, ever, ever, ever, watch Ch. 7 at 11 p.m.

I watch the headlines tease at 11 after Jay... then switch to CVB.
Which BTW I'd move the Sponser to after the coming up tease after the A block.
Would be a much more powerful intro if Jay said "You local news starts... NOW!" Then wipe right into the headlines.
The way it is now just gives people dead time to change the channel. If they insist on having it lead off the newscast sex it up by having Chapin voice it with Graphics and Music. Right now, it's VERY "UN-7".

The tanking ratings seem to spread through the broadcast day. I just took a look at the premiere week numbers (w/o Sept. 21).
Noon - 3rd Place 4PM - 3rd Place 4:30 PM - 3rd Place 5PM - 3rd Place 5:30 PM - 3rd Place 6PM - 3rd Place 11PM - 3rd Place (WBZ with a 5.0, WCVB 4.3, WHDH 4.0, WFXT 1.8)
Mornings are slightly better, tied with WBZ for 2nd Place at 5AM and 2nd Place at 6AM.

Based on the above numbers reality, maybe Jay Leno has a good complaint that he is not at all helped by a weak affiliate! LOL
